North Sumatra
Two North Sumatra tours that do not start in Jakarta
Editorial note based only on published Disteeexplore packages. No author byline, date, or guest story is attached because none was supplied.
If you are already in Jakarta, these two packages do not include the flight to Medan. Both pick you up at Kualanamu Airport.
Lake Toba is 4 days and 3 nights for 1 to 4 people at IDR 16,000,000 per group. The fare is unusual in this catalogue because attraction tickets and the Samosir ferry are included, along with standard accommodation and airport transfers. Day two is the island: Silimalombu, the Sidabutar tomb, Sigale-gale and Manortor, and ulos weaving. Day four closes in Medan at Maimun Palace, Al-Mashun Grand Mosque, and Maha Vihara Maitreya. Meals are excluded.
Bukit Lawang is 3 days and 2 nights for 4 people at IDR 12,000,000 per group. The drive from the airport is about four hours. Day two is a guided trek in Leuser Forest to observe wild orangutans, then river tubing and Tangkahan. Sightings depend on the animals. They are not guaranteed. Forest permits, about EUR 55 per person, are excluded, as are meals. A ranger or trekking guide and standard accommodation in Bukit Lawang are included.
